Hot Dog!

Keep shoveling...

The 4th of July, 2010 is the 95th annual Coney Island Hot Dog Eating contest.

Two-time defending champ Joey Chestnut is set to take the title again this year. That’s because his closest and most bitter rival, Takeru Kobayashi, might not be allowed to park himself behind the table and try to beat Chestnut’s record last year of devouring 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. From Boston.com:

But [Kobayashi’s] chances of getting revenge this weekend against Chestnut, from San Jose, Calif., seem slim because of a contract dispute with the event’s organizer. Kobayashi, 32, has balked at signing an exclusivity clause with the [organizers], and can’t compete unless he does.

That is a crying shame. The two premier competitive eaters hate each other (they don’t talk to each other and they don’t shake hands after a competition) so it’s high drama and an exciting event when they do eat against each other (if you can consider this eating). The Coney Island officials and Koybayashi should reach an agreement before tomorrow.

Look over there....please...

It just wouldn’t be the same.

$10,000 for 10 minuts of work. Not too shabby. Check out the competition on ESPN. If you can stomach it.
